Berlin is full of freelancing creatives, entrepreneurs and digital nomads who are constantly in need of inspiring places to get work done. And even if you’ve got an incredible Kreuzkölln Altbau apartment overlooking the canal and it’s got white walls and original wood floors and Herman Miller everything, everybody’s got to get out of the house sometime. There are plenty of cafés to frequent in Berlin, but not all are created equal. Anyone who’s spent more than a minute trying to connect to shoddy wifi knows what we mean. The undeniable criteria for a good remote working location is a wifi signal with strength surpassed only by the staff’s intricate knowledge of single-origin coffee, and of course a steady supply of both. In our book, a pleasant atmosphere, things to snack on, and great design also go a long way.
Whether you’re a digital nomad passing through or a born and bred Berliner, these quality cafés have everything you need to settle in for a prolonged session of productivity.
The Store
Located in the ground floor of Soho House Berlin, The Store is a concept space blending fashion, design, art, music and food. Tempted yet? The curated mix of designer clothing, cool vinyl records, mid-century modern furnishings plus all manner of beautiful print publications means every visit is inspired from the get-go. Courtesy of The Store Kitchen, quality food and drink are readily available as long as they’re open, and the healthy supply of tables, chairs, couches, wifi and power outlets mean you could (and probably should) plan on camping out here the entire day. We’re guilty as charged on that account at least once a week.

Member or not, anyone can grab a table in their café and enjoy working in the relaxed environment. There’s a nice coffee menu and lunch options that change daily. St. Oberholz
Planted right at the bustling interesection of Rosenthaler Straße and Torstraße, St. Oberholz is a concept combining café, coworking and overnight lodging. On the ground floor is the brewbar featuring exclusive collaborations with Bonanza and the café space with lots of tables and places to sit. One floor up is the coworking space requiring a monthly membership, but a one day trial can also be arranged, and still a few floors further are chic apartments which can be rented on a per night basis to host your whole team while in Berlin.

Distrikt Coffee
With coffee and brunch games strong enough to warrant inclusions in both our Best Coffee in Berlin and Best Brunch in Berlin lists, Distrikt’s friendliness toward the digitally inclined also make it a great place for breakfast meetings or working through some emails. You should be able to score a table with relative ease on a weekday, but due to crowds, setting up shop on a weekend probably won’t be an option. You’ve been forewarned.

Oslo Kaffebar
A few steps from Nordbahnhof lies Oslo Kaffeebar, a Norwegian-owned institution with woodsy interior and an excellent coffee menu. Seating and power outlets can sometimes be in short supply, but if you do need to wait for a spot to open up they’ve got house-made pastries and a nice taste in music to help you ride out the storm.

Hallesches Haus
The folks at Kinfolk would drool over this space in the heart of Kreuzberg, although come to think of it Scandinavians probably don’t drool. The recent expansion off of Hallesches Haus’ existing general store offers a bright and warm café area with lots and lots of table space. The atmosphere is cozy, comfortable and welcomes those set on digging into some work on the computer for a while. Food is served all day long so there’s plenty else to dig into as well. Mornings feature fresh pastries, sandwiches and breakfast bowls and lunch starts at noon with a canteen-style menu that changes every day. Coffee and tea offerings round it all out and make sure you don’t have to leave for any reason. Productivity beckons.

Prachtwerk
This Neukölln café is a great place for caffeination and hunkering down with the macbook for a few hours. Just a word of caution: if it’s productivity you seek, think daytime hours. Doubling as a concert venue, Prachtwerk’s space becomes much more lively around 7pm. You’re probably good to hang and work up until then, but any closer to 8pm and you’re better off packing up, grabbing a large Berliner Berg draft from the bar and enjoying some nice live (and mostly local) music.
